Just as soon as I feel myself settling into San Francisco, settling into the sound of the press and release of the busses braking, into the smell of the sticky, soaked sidewalks in the TL, settling into step with the strangers on Geary as I walk for coffee on 17th… just as soon as these things become the scents and sights and sounds of home, I move again.
In a week, I’ll be moving to...

024. formalities
This past Saturday, I went to my sorority’s formal. Never in my life have I thought to join a sorority, but Theta has been one of the many reasons why San Francisco has captured my heart more and more. I thought I’d share my outfit (on the right) because naturally, I got thrifty wid it.
Dress: Directions by Joy Stevens (1970’s) - Held Over Vintage on Haight Street, San...

022. thrifting in the Tenderloin
When I first heard about volunteering at GLIDE through my Ethics and Service Learning class at USF, I was hesitant. GLIDE is an organization centered on poverty alleviation, radical love, and radical inclusiveness. I heard rumors about the Tenderloin — it’s dangerous, it’s rife with poverty, drug addiction, and homelessness. However, I knew that the fear and hesitation I felt was the...

What Wrecks You?
remaininthevine:
Last week we had a speaker in chapel who presented this question to us:
What wrecks you?
What keeps you awake at night with thoughts of “why does this even exist?” and “someone needs to fix this.”
The basic premise of the speech was that we are all meant to do more than grow old in a nice white suburban house with our spouse and 3 kids, that there are things in the world that...

021. trash picking
a few weeks ago, I happened upon a neighbor hurling trash out of her second story window. while it wasn’t an unusual thing to see in san francisco, I slowed anyway. I didn’t want to disturb her disposal, but I saw that she was throwing out a ton of fake flowers and clothes. a couple hours later I stopped by, swallowed my pride, and poked through a stranger’s trash. I left...

I just finished my first draft of the first cover letter I have ever written. if you traveled back in time, and told eighteen year old me that I would be writing things like these and dreaming the dreams I have, she would have NOT believed you, but she’d ask you all sorts of questions about time travel. I would still do that today. regardless, I’m proud of myself.

020. thursdays thought
last summer, a yoga teacher shared some advice during our shavasana. I found this little bit to be relevant then, and valentines day feels like a good time to share it with anyone who might take comfort in it as well:
“if you are looking for the love of your life, stop looking. do exactly what you love, and they will find you.”
Made In A Free World: Human Trafficking:... →
If you think slavery ended in 1865, think again. About 18,000 people are trafficked to the U.S. each year, according to the State Department. What do they have in common? Most are indebted to smugglers and traffickers. According to the Polaris Project, a national anti-human trafficking…

019. hey Macklemore, can we go thrift shopping?
a few weeks ago rap artist Macklemore asked fans to submit photos donning their fun and funky summer clothes for an upcoming music video. I had some fun styling myself for the off-chance that the artist who wrote the number one song in the country about my number one hobby would call on me.
spoiler alert: I didn’t hear back spoiler alert: this is the closest I’ll come to posting my midriff on...
